Studies in Slavic Philology, German language and literature and east Slavic philology in Cologne and Moscow. Language courses and research trips in Russia, Poland and Croatia. Doctorate 2002 in Cologne. Habilitation 2007 in Cologne with a thesis called “Auf schmalem Grat: Der polnische Katastrophismus im 29. u. 20. Jahrhundert. Poetik, Rhetorik, Geschichtsverständnis”. Since 2007, full professor for Slavic studies in Fribourg. Courses and seminars about Russian, Polish and Serbian (Bosnian, Croatian) literature of the 19.-21. century. Key activities: Russian poetry, Fedor Dostojevskij, literature in the context of the history of thought, philosophy of history and kulturkritik in Poland, Polish intellectual history, Stanisław Brzozowski.
